name of Paris was Lutetia ( / lutetja
/ ) , or Lutetia Parisiorum ,
( French: Lutèce ( [ lytɛs ] ) ) , which is then cut to just Paris . The
name derives from the Gallic Parisii
tribe , whose name probably comes from the Gallic Celts , meaning "
cauldron " , but do not touch . Other
authors assume the name comes from the Gallic
Parisii Celt Parisio which means " work " or " craftsman”.
Situated on the river Seine , in northern France , at the heart of the region
of Île - de -France ( also known as "
